Time: 10am - 1pm

This workshop explores various bindings using stubs, hinges, flaps, or concertina folds. Each model presents unique design challenges:

  • Glued stubs require durability and longevity.

  • Sewn stubs demand precise stitching and tension.

  • Concertina folds need to avoid wrinkling and secure attachment.

  • Nested folds require precise alignment.

  • Hard casings need seamless integration.

  • Laced structures must balance stability and flexibility.

  • Decorative bindings need to balance aesthetics with structural integrity.

Through Isabelle's presentation, students will engage in creative problem-solving and explore innovative approaches to this particular bookbinding structure.

Please note:

  • Suitable for those who have some bookbinding experience (at least Level 1A). Includes tea, coffee and biscuits.

  • All materials and tools provided.

  • This is a technical workshop, anyone with enthusiasm for making books and sewing is welcome to join in. The workshop requires a certain level of capability and confidence in using sharp instruments and being able to follow verbal instructions is expected.

  • Please read our Terms and Conditions carefully before booking as refund is not permitted for change of mind.
