This workshop explores various bindings using stubs, hinges, flaps, or concertina folds. Each model presents unique design challenges:
Glued stubs require durability and longevity.
Sewn stubs demand precise stitching and tension.
Concertina folds need to avoid wrinkling and secure attachment.
Nested folds require precise alignment.
Hard casings need seamless integration.
Laced structures must balance stability and flexibility.
Decorative bindings need to balance aesthetics with structural integrity.
Through Isabelle's presentation, students will engage in creative problem-solving and explore innovative approaches to this particular bookbinding structure.
Please note:
Suitable for those who have some bookbinding experience (at least Level 1A). Includes tea, coffee and biscuits.
All materials and tools provided.
This is a technical workshop, anyone with enthusiasm for making books and sewing is welcome to join in. The workshop requires a certain level of capability and confidence in using sharp instruments and being able to follow verbal instructions is expected.
